New Report Slams Human Cost of RTA Plan
Road Trauma Costs
VRCC has published a new report that not only details the unacceptably high rate of casualties on Victoria Rd between Gladesville Bridge and White Bay, but explains how the proposed RTA Plan will exacerbate the problem
From the Summary (extracted and abridged):
- Road casualties on Victoria Road (Gladesville Bridge to White Bay) are 5 times higher than those for the Greater Metropolitan Region of Sydney. There are 18.5 casualties per kilometre per year on this road. This Report has calculated the financial costs involved in those casualties at $69.7 million over a 5-year period.
- A new 4-lane bridge will encourage more vehicles to use Victoria Road. By 2011 there will be an extra 312 vehicles/per hour (AM peak) using Victoria Road; making a total of 2,790 vehicles per hour. More vehicles, squeezed lanes, reduced or no median strips and an extensive tidal flow system; there will be more accidents and more injuries.
