No New Iron Cove Bridge

Ten reasons why this proposal is a BAD IDEA
  1. 1. The Victoria Road Community Committee has demonstrated that bus traffic objectives can be achieved without any new bridge at far less cost that $156 million.

  2. It involves less car lanes feeding on to the bridge >> more lanes on the bridge >> less lanes feeding off the bridge. This solves nothing ... Iron Cove Bridge will become a parking area for even more cars.

  3. The RTA proposal includes a dedicated city bound bus lane starting before Lyons Road, Drummoyne to White Bay, Rozelle without a dedicated bus lane across the ANZAC Bridge ... therefore ... the ANZAC Bridge will become a parking lot for cars going

    • Into the city
    • Through the city
    • Onto the Sydney Harbour Bridge

A new Iron Cove Bridge will do nothing to increase bus traffic flows across ANZAC Bridge

  4. It will destroy the Iron Cove area including a part of the very well-used Bay Run - the Centennial Park of the Inner West, used by tens of thousands of residents each week

  5. It will take away open space, trees and overshadow Drummoyne Pool

  6. It will take valuable inner city parkland parkland - a large part of King George Park

  7. The construction phase will involve the use of around ½ of King George Park as a construction site

  8. This is an extravagant $156 million short term band aid solution to a longer term transport problem. Solve the long term problem. Don’t throw our $156,000,000 at this short term fix

  9. An independent report of the Environmental aspects of the proposed new bridge, funded by local councils, demonstrate that the project fails to meet its stated objectives

  10. The RTA's own traffic study shows that some 1,800 cars per hour approach Iron Cove Bridge from the north and some 4,500 cars swing onto ANZAC Bridge at White Bay, in peak hours. Most traffic is coming from Balmain and along Darling Street from both directions... A new bridge will not help this car traffic flow
