No New Iron Cove Bridge
Ten reasons why this proposal is a BAD IDEA
- It does not address the Premier’s stated Priority needs to get more commuters into the city faster (NSW Premier’s State Plan Nov 2006)
- It involves less lanes feeding on to the bridge >> more lanes on the bridge >> less lanes feeding off the bridge. This solves nothing ... Iron Cove Bridge will become a parking area for even more cars.
- The RTA proposal includes a dedicated city bound bus lane starting before Lyons Road, Drummoyne to White Bay, Rozelle without a dedicated bus lane across the ANZAC Bridge ... therefore ... the ANZAC Bridge will become a parking lot for cars going
- Into the city
- Through the city
- Onto the Sydney Harbour Bridge
A new Iron Cove Bridge will do nothing to increase bus traffic flows across ANZAC Bridge.
- It will destroy the Iron Cove area including a part of the very well-used Bay Run
- It will take away open space, trees and overshadow Drummoyne Pool
- It may require the acquisition of private property and will destroy the liveability for those living in the remaining adjacent homes.
- It will take valuable inner city parkland.
- The construction phase will disturb the chemical contaminants in Parramatta River which built up as a result of many years of outflows from the Balmain Power Station
- There is no provision for pedestrian ways or cycle ways for city commuters
- This is an extravagant $150 million short term bandaid solution to a longer term transport problem. Solve the long term problem. Don’t throw our $150,000,000 at this short term fix.
